Before you have a baby you have a well established professional identity shaped by your experiences growing up and developing your career. If you have worked hard through school and been ambitious in your career expectations, then your professional identity is likely to be a key and important part of what makes you, you.

Becoming a mother is a bit like having the rug pulled out from under your feet. Suddenly you find yourself in an entirely new role requiring a whole new set of skills and high levels of resilience. It is wonderful and overwhelming at the same time.

Just as you find your rhythm in your new role as a mother, you find yourself needing to adjust again as you prepare to return to work. This transition requires bringing both sides of your identity together – professional you and maternal you. Becoming a professional working mother brings with it the need to balance the demands of your career with the needs of your family. Finding your ‘new normal’ is an important part of this journey.

Maternity coaching provides you with a safe and non judgemental space in which to reflect on what really matters to you and to find your own path. Everyone’s experience of this transition will be different and what works for one may not work for another.
